Young and quiet, Lucy Granger leads an introverted life in Reading, living in a flat and working in design at a graphics company—until it is upended when she both sells her idea for a mobile game and suffers an unexpected medical diagnosis shortly afterwards.
Facing a mandated medical rest period, she decides to use her windfall earnings to take a year’s holiday, renting a farm on New Moon Lane in a country village in Yorkshire. As Lucy settles into her holiday home for some tranquility, she soon learns that she is not the only tenant, when a llama named Llarry strolls out of the farm’s supposedly-derelict barn. He is shortly followed by others in a menagerie of abandoned animals left behind—from a sickly donkey who likes eating crisps to a flirtatious cockerel sleeping in the back garden.
To Lucy’s consternation, no one is willing or able to take them on, leaving her with a strange mix of furry and feathered friends to find homes for. Reluctantly adapting to her circumstances in order to deal with this problem, Lucy will discover other surprises about the animals in her care, and the place she is temporarily calling home. About herself, as well.
Will her ordinary life ever be the same after her experience on New Moon Lane? More importantly, should she really want it to be?

Thanks so much for this chance to share about my newest book, The Llama Farm on New Moon Lane with everyone at eBook Addicts! Lucy is looking for a quiet holiday in the countryside, and the farm cottage in Yorkshire seems the perfect place. In the scene below, she gets her first impression of her soon-to-be home away from home, via a tour with the local realtor.
The grove of trees was a derelict orchard just outside the old garden. The back garden’s gate was locked when Tonya tried it, saying again that she knew it would be, before she put the key into the back door, underneath the old covered porch. The arch was a bench shelter, as Lucy had thought, with an old bench still there, as if waiting for a pair of wellies and a box of tools to sit beside it.
Squeaking and sighing like an old pair of shoes themselves, the hinges on the back door swung open to the kitchen. Here Tonya began explaining things about old fixtures, and how the last occupant was still using his mother’s old cupboards and sideboards. Lucy turned on the tap. Water dribbled out, then came in a bigger spurt. At least it came out.
“Boiler’s in poor shape, naturally, which is partly why the price is so low,” Tonya said. “Lease to buy option on this one, hence why they’re asking a modest sum, trying to avoid the cost of putting it into shape. Some of the wiring doesn’t work … a bit of wormwood damage in the old wood trim, and the glass is old, with no insulation value and a few cracks.”
She wiped dust from her fingers after touching the windowsill in the next room, a living room that looked towards the plain front lawn and the old paddocks. “You know what old places are like. The washing machine is an antique practically, but it still works, in case you were wondering.”
The furniture left behind was old, the kind with wonky table legs and too many layers of paint. The window shutters were blue; through the tatters of lace curtains, the yard seemed big, like an old farmhouse courtyard, without distractions except for the wild things, like the untrimmed berry hedges.
