#promo My SECOND Life by Simon Yeats

My SECOND Life

(Right at this moment, my abducted son is being abused in another country and there is nothing I can do about it other than write this book to get publicity for his story.)

We all have two lives. We only get to experience living in the second after we realize we only have just one.

I have my first real scare in life when I get attacked by a kangaroo when I am seven. My first brush with the cliff-face edge of death comes when I am 12. My dad drives the family down the dangerous Skipper’s Canyon dirt road in New Zealand in a rented minivan.

Including the occasion I am almost involved in two different plane flight crashes, in the same night, there have been at least a half dozen more occasions when I have been within a moment’s inattention of being killed.

However, none of those frightening incidents compare to what I experience after my son is abducted.

This memoir is the story of how I used the traumatic experiences of my life to give me strength to forge on during a 13 year fight to be a father to my son.

What did it take for me to get to my second life?
It took me to truly understand what fear is.

Excerpt for My Second Life

Living in Los Angeles, I worked in Home Health driving to people’s houses. On one day I was driving back from Malibu when a truck crossed the median line and plowed head first into me.

But there is one thing I can understand.

Excruciating pain.

Of this, there is no doubt.

The amount of the pain is unbelievable. But it does not come from anywhere specific. I cannot say where the pain is coming from because I do not feel my body. I cannot move my arms or my legs.

My body is broken nine ways from Sunday.

A traumatic brain injury is causing my temporary blindness. So, I am unaware of the vehicular devastation around me. A large landscaping truck has driven across the divider into my lane and hit my car head on. The car behind me then rear-ended me. Crushing me and my small Honda Civic between the two.

The car back seat area is destroyed. The front passenger seating area is no more.

There is barely a pocket of space left on the driver’s side where my body is.

I know nothing of what is happening around me. There is only this brief window of a semi-consciousness state. Suddenly waking up in the middle of a nightmare. Being aware of blurry shapes moving around me as the roof of my car is removed with the jaws of life. I try to speak, but I cannot. All I can do is cry. I have no idea what I have done to deserve such anguish. That is all I feel. All I know.

Why is this happening to me?

Then I am aware of one blurry shape that is distinctly blue. It comes very close to me. Do not ask me how, but there are three things I am now sure of at this moment.

I know that this blue shape is a policeman.

The second thing is that I cannot stand the pain.

The third thing is that I know I am going to die.

“You are going to be alright. Hang in there,” says the blue shape.

His words give me no comfort. They do nothing to ease the agony. They do not tell me who I am or why my body is being tortured the way it is. I feel so cold. I want to die and end the suffering. All this pain can only mean one thing and that is, I will not survive whatever has happened to me.

I do not want it to drag out.

“You are going to make it,” the blue blur tells me.

“I can’t. I can’t,” I reply.

Tears of exasperation pour from my eyes, making the blurriness worse. With all the moments of hurt and frustration I have experienced in my life, nothing compares to this. Nothing comes close.

I look for the blue shape, now completely unrecognizable in the haze of tears, anguish, and desperation.

“Please, sir. Just shoot me. Please, just fucking shoot me,” I plead. I have just been born and already I want to die.

“No, no. Don’t say that. You will be okay.”

I do not believe him. The pain is tearing me apart.

“I am not okay! Just shoot me. Fucking shoot me.” My pleas get louder and louder. “Shoot me! Please shoot me! I am begging you!”

 Author Bio –

Simon Yeats has lived nine lives, and by all estimations, is fast running out of the number he has left. His life of globetrotting the globe was not the one he expected to lead. He grew up a quiet, shy boy teased by other kids on the playgrounds for his red hair. But he developed a keen wit and sense of humor to always see the funnier side of life.

With an overwhelming love of travel, a propensity to find trouble where there was none, and being a passionate advocate of mental health, Simon’s stories will leave a reader either rolling on the floor in tears of laughter, or breathing deeply that the adventures he has led were survived.

No author has laughed longer or cried with less restraint at the travails of life.
