All that remains are whispers of the past…
When multiple body parts are recovered from the Little Ogeechee River in Savannah, Georgia, local law enforcement calls in FBI agent and profiler Brandon Fisher and his team to investigate. But with the remains pointing to three separate victims, this isn’t proving to be an open-and-shut case.
With no quick means of identifying the victims, building a profile of this serial killer is proving more challenging than usual. How is the killer picking these victims? Why are their limbs being severed and bodies mutilated? And what is it about them that is triggering this killer to murder?
The questions compound as the body count continues to rise, and when a torso painted blue and missing its heart is found, the case takes an even darker turn. But this is only the beginning, and these new leads draw the FBI into a creepy psychological nightmare. One thing is clear, though: the killing isn’t going to stop until they figure it all out. And they are running out of time…

I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, all the opinions above are 100% my own.
This is book six in the Brandon Fisher FBI series and the first one I have read by Carolyn Arnold. I am always worried starting a series so late that I wont be able to catch up but this one is easily read as a stand alone, although I know I will definitely be going back and reading the previous books in the series.
It all starts with a glimpse of the killer picking out his next victim and just how easily it was for him to get his target in the middle of a busy shopping mall! Then we meet Brandon Fisher and his FBI colleagues as they are called out to Savannah by Lieutenant Pike after body parts were found in the river. From here we see the team try to literally piece together what is going as when more body parts appear, and a skinned body found just off the side of the road they know they are dealing with a pretty sick individual.
This is a gritty and pretty graphic read – and I loved it! The reasons behind the killings and they way in which the victims are killed are spine chilling and just when you think you have an idea who is behind it all, the game changes and you are thrown a curve-ball that makes you question the who, what, why and where!
For all it is a Brandon Fisher book the characters all feature equally throughout, and there is obviously some things that have happened in previous books that have shaped the team into who they are today that I feel I need to go back an read – that being said it did not distract too much from this story and like I said it is easily read as a stand alone.
One thing that bugged me was the constant use of the word UNSUB – now I know I should have realised it meant Unknown Subject but I didn’t initially and it bothered me so much that I had to google it as out of the many, many crime novels I have read not once have I ever came across this terminology before – I guess I may have been covered in book 1 but a wee refresher for those unfamiliar or new to the series would be good.
