To Rebecca it was a brave decision that led to her freedom from domestic abuse. To Solomon it was the ultimate betrayal.
It’s been ten years since Rebecca’s testimony saw Solomon locked away. Enough time for the nightmares to recede, the nerves to relax; enough time to rebuild her life and put the past behind her.
Then one day a phone rings in her bedroom—but it’s not her phone. Solomon has been in her home, and has a very simple message for her: for each of the ten years he has spent in jail, Rebecca must witness a crime. And, to make matters worse, she has to choose the victims.
Fail to respond and you get hurt. Talk to police and you die. Ready to play? You have sixty seconds to decide…
As the crimes grow more severe, the victims closer to home, Rebecca is forced to confront a past she had hoped was gone forever.
I have read a lot of mixed reviews about this book, and whilst I agree with some points made in those one, I actually really enjoyed this thriller from Caroline Mitchell.
Rebecca’s actions were questionable, I couldn’t get over how she just willingly started the game Solomon forced upon her, I have never been in Rebecca’s situation so I have no idea how a man can have so much control over a woman in such a way, so it is easy for me to say one thing but if in her shoes would I have been under his spell and did it differently? Who know…
This book features domestic violence and emotional abuse so may be a trigger to some, but the story had me hooked and told from the POV of Rebecca and Solomon it made for a chilling read on his part – I hated him, and everything that he had put Rebecca through. I did think something was a little off about Rebecca from the start but couldn’t pin point what exactly, until the end!
Fan of psychological thrillers will either love or hate this book – I personally loved it!
I cant fault the narration one bit, the voice actors did a wonderful job bringing this story to life. The audio was crisp and clear and free of any background noise.
