EXCERPT
Thank you to eBoook Addicts for having me on your blog. The below extract is from Secrets of her Forbidden Knight. My heroine, Johanne, is trying everything she can to save her son’s inheritance from her enemy, Lord Morcant. When a stranger, Al, arrives at Castle Brae she even goes so far as a fake betrothal but unfortunately she doesn’t mention it to him first.
Al did not sit. ‘I’d like a word in private if you please, Lady Johanne.’
She nodded once but didn’t stand until she had finished every last drop of stew in her bowl. She was the one in control and he needed to remember that. Once she’d forced down the last mouthful, she carefully placed her spoon back down. ‘We’ll talk in my antechamber. I will not conduct my private affairs in front of everyone.’
She walked out, back straight, not waiting to see if he would follow her. After a moment, she heard his heavy footsteps behind her. They didn’t speak until he had closed the door behind him.
For a beat they stood, staring at each other. Her pulse began to beat wildly in her throat but she kept her hands loosely at her side.
‘What on God’s earth just happened?’ Al pushed his dark hair away from his eyes. ‘I find myself betrothed to a woman with no warning that something so…’ He began to pace; words seemed beyond him.
Her instinct was to apologise for putting him in a difficult position but she held her tongue. She would not show him just how close to the edge she was or how much she needed him to go along with the fake betrothal. She did not want his pity.
