Shifter Chronicles #1
by Melle Amade
When I first started this book I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy it, but once I got going I was pulled into the story line and the mystery that surrounded Shae and why her friends suddenly didn’t want to hang out with her.
Shae is coming up for sixteen, and she has spent the summer at home with her parents and 8 years old brother Henry, whilst her best friends were in Europe for the whole summer. There was something about her friends that I didn’t quite like for ignoring her all summer long but it became apparent why the more you read.
When her best friend Zan finally gets in touch with her once home it is clear that something has gone on during the summer but Zan is keen to get Shae to drop the subject and steer her away from Aiden who she has a crush on. Instantly I thought oh they got together and don’t want to see Shae hurt – but boy was right and wrong on so many levels!
Shae’s relationship with her mother is icy beyond words and once you learn of things that happened in the past you hate and lover her mother at the same time.
The shifter aspect although been done before was actually done in a way in the book that I enjoyed and think a YA getting introduced to the shifter world would enjoy it as well. I loved Melle history building on the lore of the shifter and their hierarchy.
Can’t wait to read book 2 now as Shae has proved to be something of an anomaly to everyone!
