Jenna Sutton is nothing like the iconic vampire slayer of TV fame.

She’s the antithesis of a cheerleader. She’s not peppy. And she sucks at gymnastics. She has nothing in common with the fictional Buffy, other than being blonde and in high school…

Oh, and occasionally she kills vampires for a living as well as other things that go bump in the night.

Following an attack on an English teacher at a nearby school, it becomes clear this wasn’t an ordinary coyote bite. The gray-green Lichtenberg-like webbing of streaks making their way up Ms. Pruett’s arm can mean only one thing—zombies.

But this isn’t a normal zombie attack. The victims seem to be hand-picked.

Can Jenna complete her investigation without the school administrators figuring out she’s actually a high school student from another school? Will Jenna be able to find out who’s behind these attacks before a full-scale zombie outbreak overtakes the town? And, perhaps most importantly…

Why did her best friend kiss her after all of these years?

If you are fans of paranormal stories and a little bit of Buffy, you will enjoy this. It has been a while since I have read anything involving zombies or the supernatural so this was a nice change of pace, though this book is far from slow – from the start you are bombarded with information (though a lot of unanswered questions along the way) as Jenn and her sidekick and best friend Kieron go a  zombie hunt following an attack on a teacher in a local high school – all whilst trying to hide the fact that she is currently a student at another high school! There are a lot of Buffy vibes throughout the book, that sometimes overshadowed the uniqueness of this story

I really enjoyed this book, having read it I would not class this as a cozy mystery by any means more along the lines of paranormal adventure. I loved the characters and the story, but I was left with more questions than answers – What happened to Jenna’s mother? I want more information the Consortium and I hope that everything will be revealed in future books, but I feel a few more chapters to flesh out some backstory would have been great for this book. I really can’t wait for book two so I can hopefully get answers! I wonder what Ms. Wylie has in store for Jenna next.
